Based on Harpo's photo here, I missed the era of typewriters, eyeshades and pop-up toasters in the newsroom. Yet, the smudgy black ink still runs through me.
Being a general assignment reporter at a daily newspaper for 10 years taught me how to interview others, observe details, uncover information and write on deadline and to size.
It also forced me to learn how to become an "instant expert" on any given subject on any given day.
